These past few weeks have been some of the craziest of my life.

As I working hard in my new position at work and packing our apartment to move in our new house.

We had a health scare.

I had been having night sweats for months. Changing the sheets every night because I would soak them through. Forced to sleep on the floor or the couch or sometimes dog bed.

I didn’t think too much about it because I had night sweats when I quit drinking. The sweats weren’t this bad and didn’t last this long. And because of these sweats, I have seen the doctor more times in the past year then I had ever seen in my last 24 years. Blood work, a sleep apnea test, x-rays and then more blood work. The climax was a CT Scan, three ultrasounds and then an MRI.

Needless to say, Kayla and I were pretty scared.

After all the big scary tests came back clean, one more “humourous” test came back to show I had two parasites living in me. And if my timeline is correct, the sweats started just after I cut my foot on some coral in Hawaii.

I slept peacefully the first night I took the antibiotics.  And ever since I can to sleep through the night.

And now I can focus my energy on my family, work and and running in the mountains.

I got a promotion at my job around the same time that Kayla and I found out that we got also the duplex. And a large reason we could afford to buy our own place was because of where I work. I have been hustling ever since I got my first paper route...

I got a promotion at my job around the same time that Kayla and I found out that we got also the duplex. And a large reason we could afford to buy our own place was because of where I work. I have been hustling ever since I got my first paper route and I think I have learnt a few things about how to get a job.

How your resume looks is vital to getting a call back! For years, I used a templated resume that someone at my hometown employment centre helped me draft. It looked like every other CV and never really stood out. After college, I redesigned my resume to be 2 columns; making it as simple as possible. I wanted mine to convey all of the information in the 3 seconds. And I was betting on the fact that having a different looking resume might hold someone’s eyeballs a little bit longer. I got an interview at Kamloops This Week because my resume simply looked different.

The second thing I have learnt is to follow up on whatever job you want to get! I once applied for a job and tracked the emails so that I would be able to follow up saying I know that they read my resume, and when. And on what device. I got an first interview and then second. I once relabeled a bottle of beer to be a pun about the business’ industry and left it for the person in charge of hiring. I later mailed the same guy a cowbell telling him to “ring me” when I applied for a different job. And each time, following up worked!

And sometimes you just have to walk in and hand them your resume.

Dealer Intelligence is hiring and if you are looking for a job, I would love for you to email me at nwebster@dealerintelligence.ca! Or better yet, walk in and hand me your resume.

Today, the Kamloops Film Festival played a series of short short films. I had entered a 60 second film that a had made for Instagram. This was my film, “Wetiko”, my attempt to share why I run trails in the mountains.

My wife Kayla the other day announced that we have bought a house, making us first time homeowners. We are both really excited; to have a place to call our own that has a backyard for our dog Kyra.

My wife Kayla the other day announced that we have bought a house, making us first time homeowners. We are both really excited; to have a place to call our own that has a backyard for our dog Kyra.

We are moving into a blue A frame duplex on a quiet street in our favourite section of Kamloops named Brocklehurst, or as most call it Brock. It’s where Kayla’s grew up and where we have been living for that past 2+ years. We had honestly looked other parts of Kamloops, but we both agreed that we love living in Brock on the North Shore of Kamloops.

For Kayla, it is her home and not just because this is where she grew up, but it’s where we have lived since we got engaged and then married. We love the local grocery store that is only getting renovated from its country market look. We love the River’s Trail along Aviation Way. There is the yoga studio for Kayla and I can run to the hills from our doorstep.

The North Shore of Kamloops was the only place for us to buy our first home.
